“
The Singapore Connection” A Glass Art Workshop
for Teachers.
In June 2004 Master Craftsman Karl Harron was invited
to Singapore by Principal Adrian Cordeiro of Teck Whye
Secondary School to facilitate a series of Glass Art
Workshops. Over a period of 3 weeks a group of around
30 Principals and Art Teachers from throughout Singapore
were introduced to glass skills such as kiln-forming,
fusing and slumping using CoE 90 Tested Compatible
glass kindly sponsored by the Bullseye Glass Company
of Portland Oregon USA.
Glass blowing was also incorporated
into the workshops as Karl Harron brought with him
a portable gloryhole and 1501-66 Blowing Cullet. The
gloryhole
was later donated to the host Teck Whye School as a
learning tool to enable them to build on these skills.
Through this intensive training the Teachers were then
empowered to introduce their new found skills directly
to the students of their respective schools and to
enhance the understanding and appreciation of “glass“ as
a creative medium.
